Tragedy Strikes Clinton Mardi Gras Parade: Five Shot, Including a Six-Year-Old
The Clinton, Louisiana, community was left reeling Saturday when five people, including a six-year-old child, were shot during the 21st annual “Mardi Gras in the Country” parade. What began as a festive celebration of tradition, music, and community quickly turned into chaos and fear.
East Feliciana Parish Sheriff Jeff Travis told WAFB reporter Chris Nakamoto that the shooting occurred shortly after the parade began. “The parade had just started to roll when the gunfire broke out,” Sheriff Travis said. Emergency responders rushed to the scene, and the parade was immediately shut down as officers worked to secure the area and assist the injured.
Authorities confirmed that four suspects were taken into custody in connection with the shooting. Details about the victims’ conditions and the motive behind the attack have not yet been released, and the investigation is ongoing.
