Tragic Loss: Weakley County Sheriff’s Deputy Fatally Shot in Line of Duty in Martin, TN
Early this morning, a tragic event unfolded in Martin, Tennessee, shaking the community and law enforcement family alike. Deputies from the Weakley County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) were called to respond to a disturbance at 800 University Street, near the Days Inn, after reports of possible shots fired.
As WCSO deputies arrived on the scene to assist the Martin Police Department (MPD), they observed an occupied vehicle leaving 821 University Street, near Pocket’s Gas Station. At that moment, shots were fired by the driver of the vehicle, striking a WCSO deputy.
MPD officers immediately responded to the shooting scene, where the suspect was taken into custody without further incident. The injured deputy was swiftly transported to Volunteer Community Hospital. Despite the heroic efforts of first responders and medical staff, the deputy was later pronounced deceased.

This loss is not only felt by the sheriff’s office and law enforcement community but also by the people of Martin and Weakley County. A deputy’s role is one of courage, sacrifice, and service, and today, the community mourns the ultimate sacrifice made by one of its own.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the deputy’s family, friends, colleagues, and all who are grieving this heartbreaking loss. The bravery and dedication of this deputy will never be forgotten, and their memory will live on in the hearts of all who honor their service.
