Manhunt Launched After Eight Violent Inmates Escape Northeast Louisiana Jail

A massive manhunt is underway in northeast Louisiana after eight inmates—three of whom are facing murder charges—escaped early Friday morning from the Riverbend Detention Center, prompting an urgent response from local, state, and regional law enforcement agencies.

Louisiana State Police confirmed that the escape was reported at approximately 1:20 a.m., when jail officials discovered that multiple inmates were missing from custody. All eight men are classified as violent offenders, heightening concerns for public safety across East Carroll Parish and surrounding communities.

Authorities say three of the escapees have since been captured, but five inmates remain unaccounted for and are considered dangerous. The missing inmates have been identified as:

  • Destin Brogan, 22
  • Kelin Looney, 21
  • Krisean Salinas, 21
  • Kevin Slaughter, 25
  • Koplelon Vicknair, 19

The three inmates who were apprehended following the escape were identified as Hugo Molino, 27; Trenton Taplin, 29; and Savon Wheeler, 31. Details surrounding where and how the captured individuals were located have not yet been released.

In response to the escape, the East Carroll Parish Sheriff’s Office formally requested that the Louisiana State Police Detectives – Monroe Field Office assume the lead role in locating and apprehending the remaining fugitives. While the sheriff’s office had initially deployed most of its deputies to search for the escapees, state police have now taken command of the manhunt, with local authorities continuing to assist and serve as the lead investigative agency.

Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill confirmed she is actively involved in monitoring the situation and coordinating resources. In a statement shared on X, Murrill said she has been in direct contact with East Carroll Parish Sheriff Wydette Williams and Louisiana Sheriffs’ Association President Kevin Cobb, offering the full support of her office.

“I have offered the full assistance of my office, including the Fugitive Apprehension Unit,” Murrill wrote. “I am actively monitoring the situation.”

Law enforcement agencies across the region have increased patrols, set up coordination efforts, and are following up on tips as the search intensifies. Officials have issued a strong warning to the public, urging residents not to approach any of the missing inmates under any circumstances.

“Do not approach under any circumstances,” Louisiana State Police emphasized in a public statement. “If you observe or have information regarding their whereabouts, contact law enforcement immediately.”

As of now, it remains unclear how the inmates managed to escape the detention center. Authorities have not released details regarding possible security failures, whether the escape involved assistance, or how long the inmates may have been outside the facility before they were discovered missing. An internal review and full investigation are expected once the immediate public safety threat is resolved.

The escape has renewed concerns about jail security and oversight, particularly amid recent national attention on coordinated jailbreaks and large-scale manhunts that have placed communities on edge. Residents in and around East Carroll Parish are being encouraged to remain vigilant, secure their homes, and promptly report any suspicious activity.

Officials say updates will be provided as more information becomes available. For now, the priority remains clear: locate and safely apprehend the remaining fugitives before anyone else is harmed.
